Get Well Soon – aka 25-year-old Berlin-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and Philosophy student Konstantin Gropper – is certainly an odd one, but curiously talented too!
His striking debut album Rest Now, Weary Head! You Will Get Well Soon! is an adventurous blend of music and sound from all over the world that incorporates folk and electro, classical and European brass, as well as Morricone and tango.
On its release in Germany, the album entered the official German Top 30 and received great critical applause, with comparisons to Sigur Ros, Bright Eyes, Tom Waits, Beirut, and Nick Cave. Rolling Stone, meanwhile, raved, describing it as “an impressively superior debut – the arrangements are indeed breathtaking”.
This 14-track LP is Gropper’s debut, some three years in the making; he’s released a series of EPs over the period. Clearly not one to run when he can make better progress by simply strolling, his meticulous approach to songcraft is admirable, but while many artists polish their material to a high shine and lose the essential emotional attachment between author and audience, Rest Now, Weary Head! You Will Get Well Soon! engages on both a technically proficient and wonderfully affecting level.
